That’s right, folks. You read that right. Today is Monday… wait for it… FUND-ay.

As you are now probably well aware of, DL! has a little Kickstarter campaign going. We’re making a film that’s trying to create some solutions-based dialog around the revival of post-industrial cities. How? Looking at what people in Lodz and Detroit are doing to change the fate of their city. Why Lodz and Detroit? Both cities have curiously similar pasts– major industry collapsed and caused population loss, decay and abandonment. Clearly people aren’t giving up. So, what are those people doing? How do they do it? Those stories are exciting. And hopeful. And suggest that better days area ahead and encourage others to do that. That’s why we’re making the film.

It’s been a pretty fun ride so far with Kickstarter, a heartwarming experience watching friends, family and complete strangers decide to get behind a project they believe in. 130 people to be exact. Kind of crazy. The good news is that with four days left as I sit writing this at 7:54am, we only have $1,500 to go in reaching our funding goal. The bad news is that if we don’t raise that money in the next 96 hours then we get zip, zero, zilch from the Kickstarter campaign. All that being said, if the past 26 days are any indication of what’s to come, I have practically zero doubt this thing will go un-funded.

So. YOU! Yes, you! If you’ve been on the fence a bit about pledging, now’s your opportunity to jump on this ship before the show closes. I think we’re gonna make some waves together. The film will be a shiny example of hope, giving a different message, and inspiring others to do the same. Maybe that sounds cheesy, or maybe I am just trying to say I think this will film will encourage people to do good by their city– whether in Lodz or Detroit or Youngstown or the post-industrial behemoth in Brazil that I forgot how to spell the name of. And that’s important.

So, thanks for considering a pledge, and thanks to all who already have. Perhaps you’ll take part in posting these snippets to your social networks in the final push.
