Detroit’s Blank Artists Celebrating 6 Years TONIGHT!

Saturday, February 19th, 2011

Blank Artists are celebrating six years in operation tonight at the Park Bar. You should be there. As the flyer states, catch it all at 10pm tonight, Park Bar (2040 Park Ave, Detroit, 48226), $5 at the door. PBR is sponsoring and I have heard through the grapevine that there are Blank Artists beer coozies to be had and, well, cans of PBR to placed inside. ‘Nuff said. Thank you and good day.

Detroit, A Musical Snapshot

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Err’body’s always talking about Detroit’s music scene. Here a few tracks from bands that are just getting started in Detroit, currently recording in Detroit, repping Detroit on the west coast and making believers out of the fact that Detroit isn’t just about electronic music and garage rock. Have a listen.

The latest Detroit sensation touring the west coast and getting airtime on KCRW, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr:

Brand-spanking newly signed Madis One to Blank Artists in Detroit with a little samplage of Bjork:

The Auctioneers, a band not from Detroit (NYC), but currently recording an album here and playing shows around town:

And finally, the most astonishing addition to the lineup, Detroit’s best old-time country western band. These guys do nothing nothing like the new stuff coming out of Nashville; think more like Waylon Jennings, and these guys just kill it. Here’s a Johnny Cash cover they do particularly well, thats also rumored to be the opening track on their new album released October 12 on Bloodshot Records:

Blank Artists = Detroit Record Label Goodness

It’s fun seeing old friends. It’s even more fun seeing old friends that you don’t even recognize but (perhaps) shared classrooms with in elementary school. It’s even cooler when such a person also lives in the same city as you and runs a fairly spectacular record company. Meet Josh Dahlberg. Meet his label Blank Artists– a homegrown electronic music consortium hailing from Detroit. Starting off cutting his teeth under the watch of Mike Banks (the concealed but true Detroit gentleman of powerhouse Underground Resistance), Dahlberg got the label going with partner in crime Drew Pompa. For five years now, the boys have been churning out a respectable discography in support of a wide range of electronic artists local and from afar. In the process, they’ve even managed to bring in electro big wigs from the globe all over (René Löwe and Peter Kuschnereit, for example) to play in Detroit. Not too shabby. Check out some of Blank Artists’ upcoming events, most notably the Schematic Records Summer Tour. Support local entrepreneurs and artists. Good for the soul.
