Wrapup: DL! at Movement Festival, New Pieces Released

Whoo, what a weekend. Spent three days at Detroit’s own Movement Electronic Music Festival (to some, it’s still DEMF or just Tech Fest) with a booth showing off some of our new creations and talking to all kinds of folks about the city. Overall, a tiring weekend doing 12 hour days in the 90 degree heat, but it was great. We sold posters to folks as far as Paris, tees to Canadians, passed about 2,000 stickers to folks near and far, and met a lot of locals that want to get involved in some of the work we are doing. Oh, and we saw Flava Flav with Public Enemy. What more can you ask for?

Some photos to commemorate the weekend. First our booth space:

And our hottest selling shirt of the weekend— brand new! We our working on re-configuring our eCommerce setup on the site, and will have this tee up for grabs soon there:

The city beckons:

DL! Projects Picking up Steam in Detroit and Beyond

Monday, funday. Whoever is playing this cruel snow joke can just go ahead and get lost. This is totally screwing with our mural-painting plans. See, we can’t be painting walls outside when snow is falling– paint cracks, hands freeze and fall off, etc etc.

Anyway. Yeah. I’ve talked at length about the MANTRACITY project, of which will eventually be a mural series in Detroit featuring light-hearted and positive statements on buildings where we can get the owner’s permission (sidebar: if you own or know of a building that might enjoy a mural-lift, give a shout here). So far, we’ve started on the KAHN wall in New Center, and with all good luck, the plan is to finish that particular mural between April 26 and 28. So, that’s exciting.

BUT, perhaps even more exciting is the fact that we have at least two other walls confirmed as of now to be painted upon completion of the first KAHN wall, which is obviously fantastic. The goal is to have as many as four new murals in the series done before leaving for Poland at the end of May.

POLAND!?!

Surely you’ve heard of our Kickstarter campaign, no? The film? Post-industrial cities? Lodz? Detroit? Not making sense? Well, head on over to the Kickstarter page where you can get all the details, plain and simple. There is even a video describing the goal of the project that was fun to make. Spread the link through your social networks if you don’t mind (this is a big one!). We kind of need all the help we can get. But the bottom line is that if this Kickstarter thing gets funded, it will seriously result in bringing on some high-powered talent to this film project. It’s gonna shine. Promise.

More good news: the summer festival lineup is shaking up and the DL! team will still be showing its face around town starting in May even when some of us are over in Poland shooting for the film. We are cranking out all new stuff for Spring/Summer, and we’ll be at the Rust Belt Market for the entire month of May showing ‘em off during their grand opening (more info here). Then there’s DEMF, err, Movement at the end of the May– we’ll be there with a booth, too! There’s some street party stuff in Midtown and surrounding areas with details to be confirmed in June. Totally there. And then from there, who knows. That said, if you can’t wait to get your hands on DL! gear, of course, you can always pick up a deal in our web shop. Easy peasy.
