Vince Keenan wrote a helluva piece in the Free Press yesterday as a guest commentator. Rather than sum it up, I will just pull a few snippets worth sharing, and suggest you read the article in its entirety.

Detroit’s city charter, just like any constitutional outline, is a living document designed to adapt and evolve over time.

We should be hearing less “Don’t blame us; it’s in the charter” and more “Time to figure out how to make this work.”

The U.S. Constitution started out without a Bill of Rights, and a compromise to allow for slavery. The courts reminded us this week that the charter does not imbue the divine authority or alleviate the legal obligation to have a plaintiff. Let’s ease off of exploring charter fault lines with a pickax and rediscover this historic opportunity to turn Detroit around.
